Editing
Editing
After finishing our filming we went onto editing our film, we first looked at all of the shots that we filmed and picked out the ones that we were going to use for our short film, as a group of four we all decided that we would equal out the editing like we did whilst filming, we first placed all the shots together just to see what they look like together and how long the film is all together, we then began to edit things in and out of the film to make it flow better. Whilst editing we saw that for an opening scene the shots that we have used are a bit too much so we had to work around the shots we have to try and make it look less busy and flow more.
During the editing process we realised that we would have to put a lot of effort into the final part of our film, because it was such an important task. We took it in turns to go through the editing process and stages, such as the sound we would use, some of the shots we would take out and put in to give off the full effect of the film.
One thing that I discovered whilst filming was that a lot of the effects that were given on adobe premier pro could be used in our film as the more editing we used the more effect it got, and we wanted to match all the things that are expected from a horror-thriller genre film. One thing that I made sure was included in our project was the right amount of editing, so not too much and not too little, so it was just the right amount to make our film the best it could be. One thing that I did personally was go through all the clips that we had shot and choose which one we would use in the final task, I firstly merged them all together, which made the film cut after every shot so I used a lot of the editing choices to make sure that the film wasn't jumpy and didn't cut after every shot so that it would flow more and look more like an opening of a film.
We used the editing to speed up some of the filming that we did, and to also slow down some of the filming. Although one major thing that we did in our final main edit was to stop on the "bad guy's" face and then rewind throughout the whole first minute to give it a creepier effect and to draw the audience in to the film.

Filming
Filming
After choosing all our locations, actors and props we began to plan out what we will film first and how we could use a range of different shots to put into our film, to see which ones would look the best overall. Our short film is based on the genre of horror-thriller as we liked the ideas that we had for this genre.
Whilst filming we took photo's showing our group using the equipment as well as photos of the actors that we used in our short film, dressed up in their casual costumes and their horror type make-up.
Whilst filming we all took turns so that we would have an equal advantage for our group, we each shot different scenes and put in ideas to change the way something was shot if we needed to, we came up with a filming schedule so we each had the same amount of filming time, although we had to change some parts of our filming schedule when we realised that people who were meant to be filming were infact in the scene, so some peoples schedule times were swapped so it would be more convenient .
Mon 27Th Feb – Filming first 8 scenes
· Katie M – Scenes 1 – 5
· Lauren G – Scenes 6 & 7
· Katie M – Scene 8
Wed 29Th Feb – Filming scenes 9 – 15
· Charlotte T – Scenes 9 – 13
· Lauren G – Scene 14
· Charlotte T – Scene 15
Thurs 1st March – Filming scenes 16 – 24
· Charlotte H – Scenes 16 – 20
· Katie M or Charlotte T – Scenes 21 – 23
· Charlotte H – 24
This is the filming schedule that we based our group filming on.
When filming and looking through some of the shots that we had already filmed and completed we came up with a few problems as we were filming over a 3 day period we realised that the lighting was different in some of the scenes, so we had to try and compromise that and either re-shoot some scenes or edit them to look the same as some of the other scenes. This took a lot of our time up and we had to rush our first edit, although we still got good marks in it we all thought that we could do much better for the second and Final edit, but instead of re-filming anything we editied the lighting and added in some forms and conventions that would appeal more to our audience, making our final edit for the opening sequence much better.
For some of the research we did before filming we wanted to see what our audience liked in a thriller film and we sent out a question to 30 people and 25 people replied with their answers and suggestions. Here are the answers from the 25 people in a tally chart style. We used this information throughout filming and preparation so that we could aim for our target audience to enjoy the opening sequence.
